Kicking off the Summer

Dexter finished school with a little party on Wednesday the 23rd.  We went in for a potluck meal, little movie, and lots of chatting with other parents and teachers.  It was fun for the kids, and a little stressful for me.  There were A LOT of people crammed into a little room and it took every ounce of self control for me to not have a panic attack.  Anyway, I know Dexter's teachers sometimes have their hands full with my little guy, so I made them a school supply cake as a thank you.  I found a tutorial online here (mine isn't as fancy, but it did the job).
This is Miss Megan, the "boss" teacher I guess of the three preschool teachers.  She did a great job with Dex and he and I both liked her a lot.  (so sorry to miss Brenda and Miss Shawna who I didn't get pictures with, it was just too crazy!)
Here he is a few days later when I finally got around to taking his picture with his little diploma.  Good job graduating Dexter!  Kindergarten here we come!
Corbin's last day was Friday the 25th.  We had to come over to the school for the first grade BBQ and award ceremony.  It was crazy crowded for that also, but not as bad as the preschool graduation.

This is Corbin with his teacher Miss Cannon.  Corbin really likes her (and she really likes Corbin also).  Of course he is a model student and makes her job easier by turning in all work on time, including homework, getting 114% on all spelling tests (its higher than 100 because he gets some bonus words), and being a star reader.  I made Miss Cannon a custom mini crochet doll, but I forgot to take a picture of it.  Oh well.
At the awards ceremony Corbin received the award for most reading minutes in his class (and likely the entire grade).  He kind of goes crazy reading.  He reads in his room for an hour and fifteen minutes every night.  At the end of each week we add up the minutes for his reading log and on average he probably has 400 or 500 minutes (the requirement each week is 100).  He's awesome.
Here he is with his award.  Now on to 2nd grade!
To celebrate the end of the school year and the beginning of Summer Vacation we thought it would be super fun to go camping.  Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate and it was freezing cold and raining all weekend.  So instead we went to Bear Lake (where it was still freezing and rainy, but we could stay inside the trailer if we wanted to get warm).  Dexter rode his bike in the rain a little, and we were able to do a little hot tubbing and have a campfire after Grandma Marde and Grandpa Ross showed up.  Even though it was cold, and we didn't go to the actual lake, we LOVE Bear Lake and had a really great time.  We may have to make this an annual tradition.

To prove how crazy rainy it was, check out this tree that was in the road.  We were about 15 minutes away from the trailers at this point and had to go off roading to pass it.  It made things more exciting.

Dexy rides his bike in the rain.

Can you distinguish lake from sky?  Me neither. (believe it or not there are actually mountains back there too!)
Too cold for playing outside, so we played some fun air hockey....
 And LOTS of card games.
Finally on Memorial day the sun came out....We of course had to leave that day, but we were happy to enjoy it for a few hours first!
Thanks Ross and Marde for letting us come on short notice.  We always have a wonderful time (even when puking and diarrhea rear their ugly heads)!

Here's to a happy summer!

Are you moving my way for 5th grade?? :)
I LOVE your school supply cake! What a great idea! My supplies are completely depleted... What a good way to give things that teachers need in a cute way!
See, not like the crazy mothers in my class!!

I loved the thank you gift for the teacher, you're such a good person to do things for your kids teachers. Your camping vacation looked really cold, but it looks like you still had fun. At least you weren't in tents, like we always did when we went camping with all you kids.(I think it's cheating just a little bit ,to be lucky enough to be in a cabin, and still call it camping)

What a cute "cake". If I like Camille's or Maddie's teacher next year I will have to do that for them. No wonder Corbin is a genius... reading 400+ minutes a week is amazing. Camille likes to read, but not like that :)
