Scott had to work a super long day on Echo's birthday, and only saw her for literally 90 seconds before she went to bed that night. So the next day we went to the zoo to celebrate. It was so fun (until it got close to naptime and Ivy started to get crazy tired and grumpy). Here are some highlights.
Standing by the lions (if you look closely you can see one in the background to the right of Corbin's head). Two seconds after this pic was taken Dexter tried to steal some cotton candy from some fellow picture takers!
The day we went had perfect weather. Not too hot, not too cold. But the kids still loved playing in the mist that came out of this elephants trunk (I don't understand why there is a statue elephant here when there are no live elephants at the zoo....weird.)
Nice to meet you, Mr. Crane.
All the kids loved the penguins (Ivy was kind of scared of them at first).
Corbin feeds a goat....
And so does Ivy......Dexter chickened out.
Later that night after naps were had and people were happy again we had cake! I didn't go all out on her cake like I should have, but she didn't care. Here's how the cake part went in Echo's point of view.
"Oooh, look at that delicious cake. I'm so excited to eat it."
"Where'd the cake go, you said we'd eat cake. I want it back!"
"Oh, my very own cake. This looks pretty tasty."
"Oh my gosh, this is the best thing I've ever eaten!"
"Seriously guys, this is the GREATEST day of my life!"
"Thanks for the cake! Gimme a kiss!"
I'll think we'll count that as a successful first birthday!

Yay I love the giving kids their own cake tradition. It is so fun. I can't believe she is already 1!
