Some Bad News

Scott and I went to my 20 week doctors appointment yesterday, where we were scheduled to have our routine ultrasound. As we went through the ultrasound we didn't see anything unusual, and got a lot of great profile and face shots. We didn't notice the US tech's attitude change, or that she got a little quiet. I did notice that the ultrasound was the longest I had recieved and that she kept going over the same spot a few times. Needless to say, I was shocked to hear from my ob that our little baby has a heart defect. The left side of the baby's heart is significantly smaller than the right side, and so is the aorta. This is not an issue for the baby while it is still inside me, but as soon as he/she is delivered and takes that first breath, it will be.
What was supposed to be a short appointment in the morning, turned out to be a marathon day of ultrasounds and specialists. It is one of the hardest days I have ever had to go through since becoming a wife and mother, if not the very hardest. By 5:00pm we had finally left the office of the last specialist, a pediactric cardiologist, who said the condition is not fatal, but will require us to deliver our baby in either Salt Lake City or Oregon, and it will need immediate heart surgery. He also gave us the heart breaking news that this condition almost always means that the baby also has Downs Syndrome. We were offered an amniosyntesis (which takes amniotic fluid and tests it for the 21st chromosome) to see if the baby does in fact have downs syndrome, but we declined. We decided that whatever the circumstances, Heavenly Father gave us this baby, and no disease will change the fact that it is ours and meant to be with our family. We will mentally prepare ourselves for having a child with this condition so that if it does have it, we will be ready.
Scott and his brother Russell, were able to give me a blessing yesterday afternoon, and it really helped to comfort me, but of course it is still difficult news. We would appreciate your thoughts and prayers in this difficult time, and you are welcome to leave your comments, but please do not call to comfort us. We are still coming to terms with all of this overwhelming news, and need time to figure things out together as a family.
We know that this baby is special, no matter what, and we feel honored that our Heavenly Father finds us worthy to have such a special spirit in our family.

Our New House

Well, buying a house here in boise did not go as smoothly as I had hoped. As you may have read in a previous post, our loan guy did not come through with getting things done on schedule. He put us off a weekend originally and we had to reschedule our uhaul rental, then he put it off again and again for 10 days. We had to reschedule the uhaul twice and then cancel it altogether. We also had to reschedule our utilities being shut off. Once the loan guy finally did his job, and we were at the title company signing closing papers, we found out that since scotts license was expired, he would have to get a new one, and we would not recieve keys til after the weekend. The most annoying thing is that if the loan part was ready when it was supposed to be, Scott's license would have been valid (his birthday was the friday after we were originally supposed to sign closing papers). We decided to wait til after we got the house to get his new one, so it would have our current address on it. Who new an id wasn't an id unless it wasn't four days expired. what a nightmare the whole situation turned out to be. I kinda had a flip out, and cried and screamed at our realtor for all the things that had gone wrong. He insisted none of it was his fault, even though he recommended the loan guy, and admitted to not checking up on his progress enough. Anyway, I made him cry and I feel kinda bad. We ended up getting the loan company to pay for some professional movers to move us in, and the realtor promised to give us $150 for the uhaul cancellation and cost of utilities that we shouldn't have been using.
Now for the good news, we are all moved in! The movers came yesterday, and moved us to our house. i didn't have to do any heavy lifting, and neither did Scott, we just directed the dudes where to go, and chased the kids around. We have a lot of unpacking to do, but so far it has been pretty fun. It is so great having a big kitchen where I don't know where to put stuff cause there are so many options, rather than, not enough space. Our master bedroom is huge and makes our queen size bed look like a toddler bed, it is so exciting! The kids both slept great in their new rooms, which is pretty surprising for the first night in a new place. All in all, the past 3 days have made up for the previous 2 weeks or so of not so fun stuff. But we are definately glad it's over!

Naming the baby Cleatus?!

For those of you who really know Scott and I, know that we had a hard time finally deciding on names for each of our boys. We were literally signing the birth certificates while we were being pushed out of the hospital, because we just couldn't decide. We don't want our kids to have really common names, but we also don't want them to be too outragious. Scott always comes up with these crazy names like, Otis, Cyrax, and Corneilious. I naturally hate all of those names, and don't want our child to get beat up in school, so we just can't agree. So, with this pregnancy Scott came up with giving our baby an abstract name to call it while we don't know it's gender. So, until the baby arrives and we know it's gender we have decided to call he or she Cleatus the fetus. This is the first time we have come up with a name before the baby is born and we hope you all can join us in this joyous occasion!!

Moving Woes

So with our closing date on our house fast approaching, (friday the 6th) I have been working like crazy to get the apartment all packed up and ready to go to make the transition easier. The apartment is covered in boxes, and everything else is starting to look pretty bare and pathetic. I have been planning to clean the apartment like crazy, but I kinda want to get all our junk out first so that I can actually see everything that needs to be done. I have a weird craving to see the place shine, so I am super excited to scrub!
But just today, a problem comes up. The bank may not be ready to close on friday! We have already scheduled the uhaul, scheduled to have the gas, electricity and water turned on, we even have a delivery scheduled for our new refridgerator and washer/dryer set. The bank people have said all along that the close date would be fine, they didn't forsee any problems, now they say, oh well, it is what it is! Are you kidding me! Are they going to pay for the uhaul cancellation, and any other problems that come up? They just act like it is no big deal, we have planned our lives around this move, so have others to help us out. It is rediculous! I am so irritated and infuriated that they are acting so nonchalant about the whole thing. How can they just say, it is what it is? We also have everything in the apartment being shut off the following friday (the 13th), so I would have time to clean, and not have to do it in the dark.
Now who knows what will happen, I really want to hurt that bank guy!

"Stay at home" Mom

I love being a mom, it really is everything I ever hoped it could be. I'm so glad that I don't have to be the one going to work each day. The only thing about being a stay at home mom that caught me by surprise, is the staying at home part. I know that sounds stupid, what am I talking about!? Well, before we moved to Boise we sold our giant red van instead of getting it fixed, so for about the last 5 months I have literally been staying at home. There are no parks near our apartment, Collette lives just a little too far away for us to walk over often, and I haven't really made any other friends since we moved in. It gets a little boring sometimes, and I really started to despise our tiny, little apartment very quickly. Well, yesterday was different. I had a doctors appointment and needed the car, so scott was forced to hitch a ride with Russell. It was so GREAT to pack up the boys and leave the house. When I sat in the driver's seat I realized that it was the first time I had driven in over a month! I was so excited when my appointment ended just 20 or so minutes after it started, because it meant I would have the car the rest of the day to do whatever I wanted. I went to the post office to send a birthday gift that I have been procrastinating doing for a while, and also to Walmart where I was able to pick up a gift for Scott's birthday. These things sound like your everyday, boring activities for most people, but for me it was just so nice to be out of the house. I can't wait to be a "stay at home" mom when we live in a home that has nearby parks, a pool, and even walking paths, that way I won't actually have to stay at home all the time.

Mother's Day and Other Pics

So, I am well aware that mother's day is long over, but we just uploaded the pics to the computer so here you go. These are the roses Scott picked up for me for mother's day. I was totally surprised, mostly because this is the first time in our 8 1/2 year relationship that he has ever bought me flowers, but also because he picked them up before he got home from work one day and so I had no idea he had even gone to the store. He also gave me a movie. Also here are the boys and I after church. Corbin is incapable of smiling on cue, he actually thinks he is smiling, so instead he always makes some crazy face. He drew me a picture that I should have taken a photograph of, but haven't yet. He says it is a picture of me, but I think it looks more like a squirrel wearing a baseball cap, it is really cute and made my day.

Here is Dexter, lounging like a couch potato, if you'll notice he is holding the remote in his left hand. That's right, we train 'em young. Next we have Daddy and Corbin playing with our brand new (slightly used for the last 30 years or so) light bright. We got it at a garage sale on saturday and Corbin was very excited, he kept saying "It's just like grandmas!"

Here is a finished picture that corbin made me do, he was so excited to see his and dex's names spelled out in lights.

We also have a picture of Corbin's barney book that teaches how to write letters, this is his practice work, have I mentioned Corbin is a genious?

Here we have the boy's sunscreened up and ready to make the long trek to Russell and Collette's house. It doesn't seem far when you drive, but the walk ended up taking about 50 minutes to get there. I thought, I better not wear my flip-flops, or I'll get blisters, so I wore my tennis shoes and ended up with blisters anyway. They were actually bleeding by the time we arrived, but it was so worth it just to get out!!

Now here is Dex playing in the bathroom cabinets, he is so photogenic and adorable.
