Braggin' Wagon Wednesday: Random

I don't know that I'd consider it bragging, but I am extremely grateful that my sweet husband is okay after his surgery, and that it wasn't something more serious. I really like having him around, and would be devastated if he wasn't.

Anyway, I don't have much bragging to do today, so instead, here are a bunch of random pictures of what we've been up to. Except the swimming lessons, I'm saving those for a later post.

Ps. Happy Birthday Grandma Marde! We love you!!

Corbin wringing out his clothes after frolicking through the sprinklers. He looks freakin' adorable doesn't he?!
Ivy chowing on spaghetti like nobody's business! This girl LOVES to eat! Thank goodness. There was a time when we didn't know if she'd ever be able to eat without throwing up!
Idaho is being invaded and taken over by grasshoppers right now. I am not happy about this. Look at this guy. He's disgusting. Last summer one jumped in my hair right when I opened the back door to go outside. Totally freaked me out. EWWW!

Dexter was the only one of us brave enough to touch the grasshopper (besides Scott). I don't care what you say. They are gross, and yes, scary!
Swinging in the backyard. Don't worry, Ivy wasn't on fire, the sun was just super bright!
Bathing with goggles on. It just makes me laugh.
The kids enjoying the cool water on a super hot day. (please ignore Ivy's immodesty!) Ivy is relaxing on the family room floor...and poking the camera.
Corbin is really interested in kissing right now....here he's making Woody and Jessie "kiss each other" as he would say.
Scott's post surgery stomach. He has one incision mark on the his right side (looks like a scratch) and one in his belly button. If you look closely you can see a lot of bruising under his belly button. Not pictured is another incision mark a little below the belt...its pretty low and this is a family blog! When I had my appendix removed 15 years ago, it wasn't a laproscopic surgery, so I have a 2 inch scar on my lower right abdomen area, and I was in the hospital a lot longer....Lucky duck!

What a Way to Spend the Day

Today Scott and I celebrated our wedding anniversary by coming home from the hospital. Not the greatest way to celebrate, but definitely memorable.

Scott had his appendix removed yesterday. It was a surprise stomach ache, which turned out to be appendicitis, and resulted in surgery. He made it through surgery fine, with just one small complication of being allergic to some medicine they gave him. He is recovering very well and only had to spend about 25 hours in the hospital. He's been sleeping since we got home and seems to be feeling better. Thank you to all our babysitters (Collette, Russell, and Shawn) and to those who were willing to help, and the Fenns for dinner tonight.

Sorry about the lack of pictures, but it was crazy and the camera was the furthest thing from my mind.

Braggin' Wagon Wednesday: 7 Year Itch

Sorry the picture is blurry, but that's us making out while tubing at bear lake!

According to divorceform.org 65 percent of marriages fail! I don't know how true this is, but that is a sad number! It also says that the average marriage in the US lasts just 8 years (I thought it was 7). Well, this Saturday Scott and I will celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary, and I'm pretty sure that we are not headed to divorce court any time soon!

I don't mean to brag (okay, I do, this is braggin' wagon wednesday), but Scott and I have a perfect marriage and relationship. (knock on wood). We are so HAPPY together that I could burst into song! I joke that we should teach classes on how to have a happy marriage. I seriously have nothing to complain about. Scott is absolutely fantastic. He's patient, sweet, loving, pleasant, funny, ADORABLE and 100 percent perfect. I can't believe I am lucky enough to be with such an amazing human being.

How can it be a perfect marriage? This is how. We encourage each others good qualities, even when they can be annoying (He's a perfectionist, while I am very punctual), and embrace the flaws (he loves my big ol' booty, and deals with my occasional use of swear words, while I think his mole-eye is so dang cute and deal with his absentmindedness). We are both very laid back and don't sweat the small stuff. In our entire marriage we have never had a big fight, and with the extremely rare small fight, we easily just let it go. Its not fun to be mad, so why would we want to be. Also, this sounds cliche, but its true. We always think of the other person. For example: If Scott gets up for a drink, he asks me if I would like one also. If I need to get something from the store, I'm sure to ask Scott if I should pick up anything for him. We spend as much time together as possible and actually enjoy it, but allow each other to have time for our own hobbies and personal interests.

Scott, I love you and I am so happy that you chose to be my eternal companion. I know we will probably have some sort of issue at some point in our marriage, but I have absolute confidence in our relationship and know that we can make it through anything. Thanks for being the best husband in the world and for making me happy EVERY SINGLE DAY!

PS..Remember the 9 out of 4? Legendary!

Now I Get It!

Now that I have been a mother for almost 6 years I have learned a few things. Here is one thing that I figured out just the other day.

When I was a kid I remember asking my mom a question (probably asking if I could have ice cream, candy or soda), she would look at me and then look away without answering. I was confused, so I would wait a few minutes then ask again. Again, she would look at me for a second then turn away without answering. Getting impatient I would quickly ask again. This time she would get frustrated with me and say no. Then I would get mad. When I was a kid, I didn't understand why she didn't answer me in the first place. Now I do. She didn't answer me because she knew the answer would be no, and upon hearing that answer I would get mad or possibly throw a fit. She figured that if she ignored me I might forget that I'd even asked and she'd be off the hook.

I find myself doing this to Corbin all the time. He asks for a donut, but I know there isn't enough for all the kids to have one, but if I say no, he'll wig out, so I pretend I didn't hear him. A few minutes will go by before he asks again. This time I will either ignore him again, or give him the answer we've both been dreading and a temper tantrum will ensue. I know I should answer him the first time, but I can't help it. I just want to avoid the tantrum.

So mom, I just wanted to tell you. I get it now, sorry I kept asking. I guess the lure of candy, soda or donuts is just to great for a little kid to forget about it!

Braggin' Wagon Wednesday:Tomatoes tomatoes everywhere!

Last year we had our first ever vegetable garden. It went pretty well and we had a pretty impressive turn out. Unfortunately, by the end of summer a giant, hairy, ugly spider took up residence in said garden. I could not muster the courage to pick the veggies while that guy was on the loose, so as a result we left many tomatoes unpicked.

This spring we vowed to do better. We got a shovel and turned under the soil, with the old tomatoes still there, thinking it would make the ground more fertile. We put seeds from carrots, cucumber, cantaloupe, watermelon, basil, peppers, and zucchini in the ground. We also went to home depot and bought some tomato plants and planted them as well. Unfortunately, we used last years seeds. The carrots began to sprout, but then quickly disappeared. Nothing else ever sprouted. Our tomato plants are doing great though.

Now here comes the weird part. We went out to weed and check if anything had sprouted, and there were all these new plants in strange places. We wondered if they were weeds or some of the veggies we planted. Since they were in such weird places I knew that we had not planted them, so I pulled one up. I smelled it. It smelled like a tomato plant.

I thought that was weird, so I got out my camera and set it to the macro setting (for some super close up photos) and took some pictures of the home depot tomato plant leaves, and then some of the new unknown plants.
The Home Depot plant
The Home grown plant

They looked the same to me. So we left them there, and went on vacation. When we got home two weeks later the home depot plants had some tomatoes on them, and the unknown plants had the unmistakable yellow tomato blossoms. I guess the tomatoes we turned over in the soil still had good seeds in them and grew on their own. (which seems weird to me since all I've ever heard is that its kinda hard to grow tomatoes from seeds and I should just buy the plants) There is a total of 5 home depot plants, and 7 HOME GROWN plants! We are going to have a lot of tomatoes! I guess we will have to have a lot of BLT's and end of summer bbq's to get rid of them all!

Braggin' Wagon Wednesday:Special Monday Edition

So July has been cram packed full of stuff for us! We just got home from two full weeks of vacationing in Bear Lake and Sandy. We had so much fun and we all came back brown from the sun, worn out from the fun, and sick of the car! It was so nice to sleep in our own beds that we all slept in til 10:15 this morning (except Scott who had to work, sorry babe). So here is a crap-load of pictures for you to enjoy (when I say crap-load, I mean it! I think I put 60 on the slide, which is narrowed down from almost 400 pictures taken) Look out for the trampoline ones, they are my favorites!

Ps..thanks Marde and Ross for all the time you let us stay at bear lake, with the family and our friends, and for letting the kids and I stay at your house for a few days even though you were going through the aftermath of the flooded basement. We love you guys!

Sorry about the song on the slide, I don't know how to get rid of it.

Book vs Movie

This isn't about twilight, so all you twi-hards don't get excited.

A couple of weeks ago we were walking through DI (as we often do on Saturdays), and I was rummaging through the books and I came across The Time Travelers Wife. I had heard of the movie, and wanted to see it. I'm always imagining what a book would be like as a movie and this one was already on my netflix list, so I thought it might be cool to read the book and then watch the movie and compare (it didn't hurt that the book was only 3 bucks). So I did. Here are my thoughts.

BAD IDEA!! First I must say, I really enjoyed the book, in spite of its use of offensive language, some pretty graphic sex scenes, (which didn't matter if I skipped them) and some alcoholism and drug use. It was still really interesting and entertaining, and I had a hard time putting it down. I thought it was such an original idea.....

Then came the movie. The good thing about it was that all the things listed above that I didn't like about the book were pretty much gone from the movie, unfortunately so was everything else! It was SO DIFFERENT (as movies usually are). It seemed so much like it was just trying to speed through things and hit only the parts that were super important. I hated it. I was so disappointed about a lot of the stuff they skipped over, or changed around, stuff that I thought was important. Like Clare's mom dying....she doesn't die in the movie, and that annoys me. It was such a pivotal part of Clare's life in the book, and I couldn't believe it was gone. UGH....I'm so annoyed. I think this is the first and last time I'm going to experiment with book vs movie.....movies just can't live up to books and I'll always be disappointed.
