I Resolve Not To Have A Resolution...Wait, that doesn't make sense.

Don't you hate New Year Resolutions.  I do.  They seem so forced and by February people are back to their old ways.  So I'm not making a resolution this year.  Nope.  I'm just going to do things in life differently (alright, alright, Its the same thing, I know!)

For starters...I have given up soda.  This is no easy feat.  I am totally in love with soda, and its been my crutch for years (or decades).  Especially pepsi and mountain dew.  This may be the hardest thing I will ever do.  Can you go to rehab for soda addiction?

Second...I'm working out.  FIVE days a week!  That's right, I'm insane.  I'm going from periodically working out whenever I feel the urge to working out five days a week.  I have a plan in order to not get bored, and I'm really hoping that this isn't the resolution life change that disappears come February.

Third.....Nightly family prayers.  We are terrible about this.  I don't know why.  We read to all the kids every night, this should just fit in too.  But what can I say?  We're lazy, and by 8:30 pm I'm SO DONE with kids.

Fourth.....Paying our tithing.  I'm not ashamed to admit that we struggle with this. Okay, I'm a little ashamed.  Its hard for us when we are financially struggling to give away 10 percent of our hard earned money to the church which isn't struggling financially at all.  We really need to work on this.  Its so hard.

And finally....I need to work on being nice.  This sounds stupid when I read it out loud.  But seriously.  I don't think I'm very nice.  I'm mean.  When my kids start to get on my nerves, I'm mean.  When people I come into contact with say things that I don't agree with or just seem ignorant, I'm mean (maybe not to their face, but I definitely think mean things).  I don't want to be mean, so I'm going to be nice.

If  you have any advice for me on how to keep up with my life changes I'm open to it. Also, does anyone want to work out too? Then we can be held accountable to each other!  We don't have to live near each other (since I don't live near anyone) Just make a daily or weekly report or whatever.  LMK.

Happy 2012!  Here's to hoping the Mayans were wrong!

great blog!!!I'm glad to see you're not doing any of those crazy new years resolutions! Me too. I am not to worried about when the world is coming to an end, I just live life day to day and hope things get better. I guess to put a plan in motion and set goals is really the way I should live. I'll think about it!

I lauged out loud about the Mayan comment :) Good one.

I am a weirdo that loves New Years Resolutions. Not keeping them necessarily, but making them. I LOVED your "non-Resolution" resolutions. I am procrastinating and haven't even set any myself. Shame on me.

My best advice is to make small, measurable goals. Like..."I will not drink soda for 2 weeks or a month." and then reward yourself with something -- a pedicure, a nap, a treat when you meet that small goal. Charts work really good for me. Also, have a plan for if you do mess up. Do you start counting over? Do you allow one "oops" a week/month? What?

And I do plan to exercise 5 times a week too. I'd be happy to be a support or cheerleader with you.

I have set some life changing goals as well. I laughingly call them resolutions j/k. I intend to work out at least 4 days a week. I use charts and stuff, spark people, turning our family room into a gym. If you want we can track goals and be accountability partners or whatever. But just so you know I only intend to weigh myself every other week and never on an aunt flow week. I am about weight but also inches and pant size and energy. LMK
p.s. the soda thing gets way easier. I gave it up a few years ago. I do occasionally still have one but there is no need involved, no headaches, all that crap.

I am training for the SLC Marathon. I will be running 4-5 days a week depending on what my training plan online calls for. I still use spark people also, love my iPhone app!! I would like an accountability buddy too.

Good life goals. I am also trying to give up soda, in fact I have all the same goals as you, except for the be nice one, I'm pretty nice to most people and if I am ever mean to someone they probably deserved it, it takes a lot to make me be mean, though according to Ryan I'm scary.

Anytime you want to workout/walk/jog or need motivation call me up! I'm always up for getting sweaty!

5x a week is awesome! I struggle to get in that many days, usually I settle for 4 but lately I've been trying to match my husband who does 5x a week plus 12 hr work days. I should have 5 in the bag.

Some years I make resolutions and actually keep them, but truthfully that was only 1 year out of 33. Usually I just get to January 2nd are realize I didn't set one and say who cares. That is what I did again this year. Really we should be trying to be better each day anyway, right? Being pregnant almost always ruins resolutions anyway.
