An Evening Ruined By A Plastic Kiwi

That's right. A plastic kiwi can ruin your evening simply by being on the stairs when you try to go up them in the dark.

It was sudden, it was confusing, and it was painful.

I fell victim to the aforementioned plastic fruit just as I realized that I'd forgotten to grab my book for some end of the day reading in bed. I turned to grab the book, stepped on the kiwi that was hidden by the dark, rolled both my ankles at once and fell down the bottom two stairs.

I cursed out in pain and yelled for my knight in shining armor. We looked at my foot, (although I had actually rolled both ankles, only one of them felt like it had been ripped from my body). I cried as we looked and tried not to wake the kids who were blissfully dreaming in their rooms.

Something was sticking out on the right side of the top of my foot. It looked like it might be bone. We panicked. Scott called his brother, Shawn, who thankfully lives just 1 minute away, and he and his wife came over to hang out while the kids slept and we headed to the ER.

They double lead-vested me (because of the baby in my uterus) and took X-rays. They twisted my foot at will as I tried to "man-up" and not screech out in pain. It took forever to get the results back.

Not broken, thank goodness. Severely sprained with torn/stretched tendon's or ligaments (I forget which exactly, it was after midnight and my brain had already shut off). They sent me home with a brace and said to put ice on it every few hours.

Scott helped me get through the house last night, to get my jammies on and use the bathroom, because I can't put any weight on my foot. He's so sweet and patient. Today, I am on my own with the kids. I crawled into their rooms to wake them up, and I scooted down the stairs on my bottom to where Scott had lovingly left the stand-alone towel rack from our bathroom that I am now using as a walker. He's going to pick up a set of crutches for me at Savers today, but until then, the towel rack will have to do. I haven't figured out how I will get the kids to/from school today, but I'm sure I'll think of something.

Curses to you, plastic kiwi!

You should put up some pictures of the kiwi, the walker, and your swollen foot! Maybe later. It's awesome that it's not broken and that the baby is fine. We got lucky this time. I think the moral of the story is that books and reading are bad. If you hadn't tried to read, you would have been fine! Stupid books and kiwi's.

Sorry to hear that (or see that) I hope you feel better soon. Don't let this scare you off reading. Wish I was there to help.

So sorry. Think that all that pain comes from some lame little plastic toy. Hope the crutches help come, but that will be hard to hold Ivy. Hope you heal soon.
