A Rough Couple of Weeks

I can't wait for April to be over.

Ivy spent about 5 hours in the emergency room last night.  She's had a raging fever since Saturday.  She has Asplenia so high fevers with unknown reasons can be a little scary for her.  I spoke with her doctor twice during the day, took her to the hospital to have some more blood tests done (we did this in early april as well, and got no definitive results), picked up a new prescription for augmenton (an antibiotic) for the second time this month, and made an appointment for her to see an infectious disease doctor at our pediatricians recommendation.  We spent the remainder of the afternoon at home while she whined and winced on the couch.  By dinnertime she complained that her stomach hurt and it was hard to breath.  That was enough for me.  I quickly packed an overnight bag (just in case), but by the time I was done she said her left arm hurt too.  Scott and I both kind of panicked, threw her in the car and she and I headed to the nearest hospital, driving way too fast.

They took us back immediately and hooked Ivy up to all the usual equipment.  The source of her left arm pain was revealed when her shirt came off and it was discovered that she still had the little cotton-ball and band-aid on her arm from the blood work earlier in the day.  I felt pretty dumb, but hey, better safe than sorry, right.  Anyway, they took her temperature twice (the unfun way) and she had a fever of 104.6 degrees.  They quickly got to work on her.  After 2 attempted IV's without success, more blood work, a urine sample, and 5 long hours of crying and heartache it was determined that Ivy had a severe bladder infection.  They gave her a big shot of antibiotics in her butt (which was heartbreaking because it was very unpleasant for her), and sent us home with instructions to continue taking the augmenton, see the infectious disease doctor in the morning, and follow up with the pediatrician.  We got home at 11:30 pm.

I suppose I need to be grateful that in four years this is only the 2nd time she has had to go to the emergency room, and I am, I just feel bad that she had to go through all of it.  I feel stupid for taking her in when it was just a bladder infection, but I am also so happy that it wasn't something worse (like the endocarditis they originally suspected) and that we didn't ever have to be admitted to the hospital.

Now that she's on the augmenton and since she had that extra shot in her butt, she is already seeming a lot better (although she still cried like crazy at the infectious disease doctors office today, but who could blame her!).  I just hope that as soon as she finishes this antibiotic she doesn't instantly get sick again, because its really hard when a princess is sick.

What we've been up to...

Nope......
Not drinking an entire case of whiskey, but we have been to the liquor store.  Someone at church (yes, church) recommended we get boxes from there because they are good sturdy boxes, and they've got a lot of them.  So we did, because.....We're moving!

Back to Utah.  As soon as school is out.  We're crazy excited.

Here are some pictures of our new house!  (Well, hopefully our new house, we close on it in just a few weeks).
This Galley style kitchen will take some getting used to...

I love that front door window.
 Master bedroom
 Basement family room
 Boys' future bedroom
downstairs bathroom...(we're a little confused by this shower, it's big enough to have a bathtub, we might switch it)
A 5th bedroom which will be Scott's office.
Teeny tiny master bathroom, this will take some getting used to as well.
 Formal living room

 another bathroom
And another bedroom (either the girls' or Malcolm's, but they look the same and I can't tell the difference in the pictures).

House hunting in Utah has been hard.  The market is pretty darn competitive, and we had to make some sacrifices to even get one.  But it'll all be worth it to live by the friends and family who love us.  We can't wait!

The Pinewood Derby

So Corbin had his first Pinewood Derby.  He wanted to do something very unique, so we came up with a wii remote.  Daddy helped with the wood carving (and pretty much everything else), and I think it turned out fantastic.

Here is a taste of a few of the other cars, so as you can see, Corbin's was the best (I may be biased).

So although Corbin didn't win a single race (8 races, 5 second place finishes, 2 third place, and 1 fourth place) he had tons of fun and was a really good sport, and he still got the patch!  I personally think they should have given awards for the most creative, because he had that award in the bag!!

Easter

We had a great Easter.  Except for the fact that Ivy was pretty sick again this year (2 easter's ago she had RSV and almost got hospitalized).  This year she had struggled with a fever for several days and had some blood and urine tests done last Wednesday at the hospital to see what was going on.  Pretty frustrating.  Anyway, that's a whole different subject.

On Saturday we played outside in the sunshine and colored eggs.  Echo is pretty obsessed with swinging lately and expects me to push her on it 24 hours a day.

Corbin was being a bummer that day for no reason and was "taking a nap" on the couch so he didn't have to hang out with us outside.  All I had to do was take his blanket outside and he eventually made his way outdoors.

Malcolm thought Dexter swinging was the funniest thing ever.
 Contemplating life...

The kids decked out in their Easter Sunday outfits...They are so freakin' adorable.
The easter bunny brought sidewalk chalk for the kids...I got carried away with it.

Dexter's Birthday

So Dexy turned six last week!  He's such a big boy.  He was nine months old when we moved to Idaho...I can't believe how much time has gone by!

He had a Spongebob birthday this year, that's his latest obsession.  I made him mini-Spongebob and mini-Patrick dolls.  He was pretty excited.  He also had Spongebob wrapping paper and a spiffy Spongebob cake (from Walmart, I never claimed to be super-mom).  He also got a bunch of other stuff made for awesome six year old boys like him!

Dexter is such a cool kid.  He hardly seems like the same kid that threw Earth shattering temper tantrums over not getting to close the garage, or having to use a blue plate instead of a yellow one.  He's freaking awesome.  He is a big talker and could probably win a medal for the longest stories ever.  He still thinks Corbin is the coolest brother ever and tries very hard to be like him, but lately he thinks Ivy is awesome too and they play together pretty often...its adorable.

Anyway, we love having Dexter in our family.  He makes life so much more exciting.  We love this kid.  Happy sixth birthday Dexy!

Working on hats...

I've spent quite a bit of time crocheting hats lately....Yes, I realize that winter is over, but it will return!

The following hats were all made by me within the last two months or so...They are my own original patterns.

Scott sports his "Finn the human" hat.  He has received many compliments on this little number.  (Finn is from Adventure Time, if you are unfamiliar).

This is a "Bender" hat that was created for Scott's geek buddy, Kris.

A generic Panda hat made for my niece, Rae.

This is "Homer" which I made for my dad's birthday.

And finally, Eeyore.  He was also made for my niece, Rae.  He was pretty hard, but I'm pleased with how he turned out.  I hope she liked him.

I'm such a slacker..

So I have kinda sucked at blogging lately.  It's been hard for me to find time to blog, plus, I'm too lazy to transfer pictures over from the camera....I'm so lame.  Anyway, keep an eye out for some catch up posts over the next few days.
