The joys of Scouts...

I'm falling behind in the blog world, both reading and writing.  I need to catch up, but who knows if that'll happen.  I guess having five children really does keep you a little more busy.  Who would've thunk it?

Anyway, when Corbin turned 8 in November, not only did he get baptized, but he also got the "privilege" to join scouts.  I put privilege in quotations because....well....I'm not so sure if its more of a privilege than its just a lot of work.  Its still new to us, so I'm trying to give it a chance, but I'm kinda grumpy about it. I suppose it gives him something to do besides video games, which is great, but a lot of aspects of it annoy me.  Mostly, I'm annoyed at the amount of work I have to do, and I really just want to be lazy and not do it.  Plus, I don't sew, and it seems like there is a lot of sewing involved.  It all just seems like something Dad's should be in charge of if you ask me.  Anyway, enough complaining.  Here is my little Wolf Scout (I still get confused by the order of animals, but whatever, that's what he said he is) in his uniform-a hand-me-down from cousin Bradley (thanks Earls!)

A week or two ago the scouts were working on bird achievements (if that's what they are called) so Scott took Corbin and Dex to Birds of Prey here in Boise to pass his off.  Here are some pictures of all the cool stuff they did.

The boys had a lot of fun at birds of prey, so I guess I can't complain too much, but I probably still will.

Oh Rochelle-you have only just begun in the Scouting world. You have 3 sons! I remember I was so grateful that Linda Coyle and Sandy Curtis were the cub leaders during Russell and Scott's time in cubs. By the time Shawn came around it was my turn and I really loved it and finally had the time to help. So, thank your leaders now and realize that someday you will probably be Malcolm's cub leader too!

Okay...you know I've had many different callings in the church....The most challenging one and hardest one I ever held was that of being a scout leader!!!It's A LOT of hard work, and taking them to Tracy Wigwhom was exhausting. But at the same time it was rewarding. It teaches those boys so many good things. So good luck and be grateful to your scout leaders...they work hard!

Just have to say that owl is beautiful. Glad they're having gun. Drew did a short stint in scouts. I personally didn't think it was amazing or anything. He had fun for a while but it was a lot of work for the parents. And it is so tied to church that it makes it kinda hard for the non church goin folk.

Oh crap I obviously meant "fun". I'm not glad anyone has a gun.

You need to get your hands on some of the iron on stuff to attach all the badges. It costs about $10 but should last you through all of cubs couts. I did the sewing the first time around and it was awful. But for my Boy Scout we've used the iron on patch stuff and it was great. They sell it at the scout office.

Ideally, the boys Cub Scout den and pack should be doing most of the work (not the parents) but not every situation is ideal. Good luck with it all. We are about to re-enter the Cub Scout program in April. I have mixed feelings :)
