random, unimportant, but enjoyable (for me)

Today I solved the rubik's cube in 1 minute 58 seconds. I think I previously mentioned that Scott had taught me how to do it. Now that I am relatively fast at the long way, he wants to teach me to "speed cube" which requires me to memorize a lot more patterns and algorithms, but if I do I can get very fast...I don't think I'm smart enough....I might give it a try though. Scott loves teaching me how to do things I don't already know how to do.

Corbin the genius really makes my head spin sometimes. I am continually amazed by the things he does. He reads off random signs and says, "does that say "Hastings?" (which is a book/music store in boise similar to media play). I say(trying not to sound totally amazed) "yes it does. How did you know that?" and he answers quite nonchalantly, "I sounded it out." This boy isn't even in kindergarten. He then read all the other surrounding signs such as, "Walgreens", "books", and "coffee". Amazing. He also knows how to get to a website on his computer that lets him play old-school nintendo games for free. I didn't even know how he got to it until today when I watched him type in "www.google.com" and then type "nintendo" into the search box. Then he clicked on the site he wanted and started playing. Have I said that he's a genius? Because he is!

Dex is as obsessed as ever with his star jammies, but luckily he's backed off with the hat a little bit. He doesn't want anyone else to wear it, but at least he doesn't wear it to bed anymore. I believe he's also got a little genius in him since he can solve a mildly scrambled rubik's cube as well. By mildly I mean like 6 turns from solved, but its still pretty impressive since he's not quite three years old yet. He can't pee in the potty but can solve the cube.....maybe I should work on my priorities eh?

Ivy was recently declared ineligible to receive money from the government for disability. This is fine with us since it literally caused us more stress than not, but it also means she will no longer be covered by medicaid as of march. I am a little stressed out over this, since without medicaid her medical bills will go sky-high, but the medicaid office assures us that we can apply for a different kind of medicaid. (Although, I feel like they will turn us down anyway.) But there is a silver lining to this stressful situation. I was able to tell the nurse that after Ivy's appointment with her on this coming tuesday, we will no longer be needing her services! I'm FREE!!! Well....sort of. On a compromise I promised the doc that I would bring her into his office once a month to weigh her. Ugh...but at least I don't have to deal with the nurse breathing down my neck anymore.

And finally. Its been feeling very spring-like around here lately. The sun is shining, the air feels warmer, and the kids have been playing outside again. I almost want to jump for joy, but hold back for fear of jinxing it and waking up to six inches of snow tomorrow morning. I can't wait for endless days of picnics in the park, and riding bikes til our bottoms are soar. Oh glorious summer, how I've missed you!

I'm glad you'll be free of weekly visits....On the other hand I hope she keeps doing really well,so you don't have to pay for more services than you can afford. Good luck with the rubiks cube!!! I'm looking forward to spring and summer also.

Wow Corbin is amazing. I am also more than mildly impressed that you can solve "the cube" in less than 2 minutes. So there are obviously some constant patterns to follow, how totally amazing. If we ever have a big family reunion again you guys should give us lessons ;) My 2 year old refuses to go potty too. Yay that you don't have to have the nurses bugging you any more. Sorry about the medicaid or lack thereof.

Corbin is a stinking genius! Dont ya just shake your head in disbelieve when they come up with these things?

That stinks about Ivy not being covered. Although it sounds like it might be nice not to have the hassle of it too.

I know what you mean about spring. I bought some flower pinwheels for our garden last week.
